Passage 8: In many communities across Ghana, diseases such as malaria, cholera, and typhoid remain prevalent. These diseases are often linked to poor sanitation practices, with many communities lacking access to clean water and proper waste disposal systems. Stagnant water and open drains create breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which spread malaria, while contaminated water sources lead to cholera and typhoid outbreaks. The impact of these diseases is devastating, particularly for children and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to infection. Malaria is a leading cause of illness and death in Ghana, with thousands of people affected annually. Cholera and typhoid also result in significant morbidity and mortality, especially during the rainy season when water sources become more easily contaminated. To address the high prevalence of diseases, the government and various health organizations have implemented several public health initiatives. These include campaigns to promote good hygiene practices, the distribution of treated mosquito nets to prevent malaria, and efforts to improve water and sanitation infrastructure. Vaccination programs have also been introduced to combat preventable diseases like typhoid. 1. In two sentences, one for each, state two causes of diseases in Ghanaian communities. 2. In three sentences, one for each, state three effects of these diseases on communities. 3. In three sentences, one for each, state three measures taken to prevent diseases in Ghana.
