care of their children. I appeal to authorities here to put measures in place to help control

teenage pregnancy in the school.

Mr. Chairman, another cause of teenage pregnancy in the school is poverty. As the saying

goes, poverty is madness. Would anyone here overrule the adage? I hope not a single one of

you would do that. Poverty makes parents powerless to look after their children, as we are

all aware. Parents desperate to move out of poverty push their children, especially teenage

girls, to associate with men to get them money. I hope you know what that money can do.

That money will release stress from parents about poverty, but replacing it with teenage

pregnancy and its related effects is impossible to erase once imprinted. As we have

government officials here, it is their duty to help improve the economy of the country to help

reduce poverty levels to prevent teenage pregnancy in the country. We all pray that a time

will come where poverty will be reduced to help moderate the rate of teenage pregnancy in

the school.

Mr. Chairman, the final cause of teenage pregnancy is broken homes. Families are separated

nowadays. These broken families cannot take care of their children as the families become

single parents. As a result, the children cannot figure out which parent to go to for their basic

needs. Let me ask, how many of your parents here are divorced? We cannot make our

children, especially the girls, get pregnant! The effect of the children looking for their needs

due to broken homes is to enter into premarital sex for money due to child neglect. So,

everyone here must do all they could not to separate as a family but do all they could to stick

together.

Mr. Chairman, The Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, The Headmaster, Staff, Chiefs,
Invited Guests, Fellow Students, Ladies and Gentlemen. From the above speech, we hope to
do our part to make sure our children are protected to reduce teenage pregnancy in the
school and the community.
