Exercise 3:

Use the following independent and dependent clauses to form complex sentences. Add

subordinating conjunctions (because, since, after, although, when, etc.) where needed.

1. (Independent) I missed the bus. (Dependent) I was late for work.

2. (Independent) She enjoys painting. (Dependent) She has free time.

3. (Independent) They went home. (Dependent) The movie ended.

4. (Independent) I will call you. (Dependent) I get there.

5. (Independent) He is always tired. (Dependent) He works late at night.

Exercise 4:

Rewrite the following sentences to improve clarity and sentence structure. Consider

breaking up long sentences or combining short sentences where appropriate.

1. The meeting, which was supposed to start at 9, was delayed because of technical issues, so

we had to wait for 30 minutes before it finally began, and by then, everyone was frustrated.

2. My brother went to the store, and he bought apples, bananas, oranges, and then he went

home.

3. I was walking down the street, and I saw a dog, and then it started raining, so I ran home.

4. She wanted to go to the concert, but she didn’t have enough money, so she stayed home.

5. The park was closed, and the weather was bad, so we decided to stay inside, and we

watched a movie instead.
