Passage 5:

In Ghana, road accidents have become a growing concern, resulting in numerous injuries

and deaths each year. One major cause of these accidents is reckless driving, with many

drivers ignoring traffic regulations, including speed limits and overtaking restrictions.

Poorly maintained roads and vehicles also contribute significantly to the frequency of

accidents, especially in both urban and rural areas.

The impact of road accidents extends beyond the immediate loss of life and injury.

Survivors often suffer from long-term disabilities, affecting their livelihoods and placing

additional pressure on healthcare facilities. Moreover, frequent accidents disrupt

transportation systems and lead to costly repairs for damaged infrastructure and vehicles.

To address the issue of road accidents, the government of Ghana has implemented several

measures. Road safety campaigns are being conducted to educate the public on responsible

driving, while the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has intensified patrols

to enforce traffic laws. Additionally, there are efforts to improve road conditions and ensure

vehicles undergo regular maintenance.
