PRODUCING MONO-SYLLABIC AND DI-SYLLABIC WORDS WITH

                            ACCURATE STRESS IN SPEECH

Accurate stress on mono-syllabic and di-syllabic words is crucial for clear and natural-

sounding speech. Stress patterns can also change the meaning of words in some cases.

Mono-Syllabic Words: Words with one syllable.

Examples: cat, dog, light, rain, play.

Stress Practice: - Emphasize the whole word since it consists of only one syllable.

Practice with different emotions to show how stress can vary: Yes! No? Stop.

Di-Syllabic Words: -Words with two syllables, where one syllable is usually stressed more

than the other.

Examples:

   ü TRAv-el(travel)

   ü VIS-it (visit)

   ü TA-ble (table)

   ü STU-dent (student)

Listening and Producing Words:

Activity 1: Stress Identification: - Have students listen to words and identify which

syllable is stressed.

Examples: 'teacher (first syllable), a'round* (second syllable).

Activity 2: Repetition and Practice: - Practice pronouncing words with correct stress

patterns.

Example: ‘present (noun - first syllable stressed) vs. pre’sent (verb - second syllable

stressed).
