Reference: Response to the article titled “The State of Education in Ghana,” published in
The Daily Times on 15th August 2024.
I am writing to address several inaccuracies in the article titled “The State of Education in
Ghana,” published in The Daily Times on 15th August 2024. While the article raises some
valid concerns, it overlooks important facts that provide a more balanced view of the
situation.
Firstly, the claim that rural schools lack access to qualified teachers is misleading. According
to the Ministry of Education’s latest report, over 70% of rural schools have seen an increase
in teacher recruitment, with many newly qualified teachers choosing to work in these areas.
Furthermore, the article’s assertion that educational funding has decreased is incorrect. In
fact, the national budget for education has increased by 15% this year, with a significant
portion allocated to infrastructure development in underprivileged areas.
I hope that by addressing these points, the public will have a more accurate understanding
of the current state of education in Ghana. I trust that this rejoinder will be published to
provide a balanced perspective.
