media can lead to procrastination, resulting in incomplete assignments and poor

preparation for exams. Studies have shown that excessive use of social media correlates with

lower grades and decreased academic achievement.

As a result, students could lag behind in their learning process. Consequently, these students

could fail their final exams, leading to a school drop and its relative effects. Parents must be

encouraged to check on their children and guide them to use social media appropriately to

enhance academic performance in schools in the country.

Also, mental health issues are a negative effect of the use of social media by students in the

country. The pressure to maintain a certain image online and the comparison with others

can lead to mental health issues among students. Social media platforms often portray an

idealised version of life, causing students to feel inadequate and anxious about their own

lives. This can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Cyberbullying is

another serious issue that affects students' mental health, leading to severe emotional

distress and, in some cases, tragic outcomes. As a result, students would not be able to

concentrate in life. Consequently, some of the students may turn to drug addiction to

overcome their stress, leading to death and madness. Parents must help their children

balance the use of social media to prevent the issue of mental health.

Finally, moral degeneration is an effect of the use of social media by students in the country.

The content shared on social media can influence students' values and behaviour negatively.
