Use Transitional Devices: Use transitions to smoothly connect the opening details to the

topic sentence. Words like “In the midst of,” “As a result,” or “Thus” can be effective.

Conclude with Supporting Information: After stating the main idea, further elaborate

on it by providing additional details, examples, or consequences that reinforce the topic

sentence. At this point, let us take examples.

Example 1

The early morning air was filled with the soft chirping of birds and the gentle rustling of

leaves, a peaceful beginning to what would soon become a bustling day. As the sun began to

rise higher, its warm rays started to filter through the trees, casting long shadows on the

ground. In the midst of this serene setting, the town square slowly came to life,

with vendors setting up their stalls and children running around in playful

abandon. Gradually, the quiet was replaced by the sounds of laughter, conversation, and

the clatter of goods being arranged. By midday, the once silent square was transformed into

a vibrant hub of activity, a place where the community gathered to exchange not just goods

but stories and smiles as well.

Example 2

In many communities across Ghana, the struggles of daily life are evident, with families often

facing financial hardships that limit their access to basic necessities. Many young girls are

forced to leave school early to help their families make ends meet. Unfortunately, this lack

of education and opportunity leaves them vulnerable to exploitation. As a result, poverty

causes teenage pregnancy in Ghana as many girls see relationships with older

men as a means to financial security. These men often provide money or gifts in

exchange for the girls' affection, leading to early pregnancies. As a result, the cycle of poverty

continues, with these young mothers unable to provide better opportunities for their own

children, perpetuating the issue across generations.
