                                TYPES OF PARAGRAPHS

In writing, different types of paragraphs serve various purposes. Understanding these types

helps you choose the right structure and style for your writing tasks. This chapter explores

four main types of paragraphs: descriptive, narrative, expository, and persuasive.

We will look at their unique characteristics, provide examples, and include exercises to

practice writing each type.

                               IDENTIFYING TYPES OF TEXT

Let us read the text below

1. The playground was full of children laughing and playing. The swings soared high into the

sky as kids pumped their legs back and forth. Nearby, the slide was busy with children

climbing up the ladder and whooshing down with big smiles on their faces. The bright green

grass felt soft underfoot, and the warm sun made everything shine with a golden glow. It was

a perfect day to be outside.

Main Idea: The lively scene at the playground.

Mode of Writing: Descriptive

Purpose: To describe the joyful atmosphere of a playground.
