Group Study Draft on Pollution in Our Local River

Pollution in our local river has become a serious problem that affects not only the

environment but also the health of our community.

The first cause of pollution in our river is industrial waste. Factories near the river often

dispose of their waste directly into the water, introducing harmful chemicals and toxins. For

example, the local textile factory has been found discharging dyes and chemicals, which turn

the river water an unnatural color. Fish and other aquatic animals are particularly affected,

with many showing signs of illness and deformities. For example, fish caught from the river

often have sores and unusual growths.

Another significant cause is littering by people who visit the river. Many visitors leave

behind plastic bottles, food wrappers, and other trash. For instance, after a weekend, the

riverbank is covered with discarded items like plastic bags and cans. As a result, the pollution

threatens our drinking water supply, as the river is a source of water for many households
