                               ANSWERING SUMMARY

The summary is the shortened version of a given text. At our level, students are asked to

write a sentence summary. Therefore, the summary is the shortened version of a given text

in a sentence form. The topic sentence of a paragraph is the summary of the paragraph.

Therefore, in summary, we are looking for topic sentences or points in a passage.

What then is a sentence?

A sentence is the composition of words to make a complete meaning. It is made up of a noun

+ verb + noun or subject + action + object.

The noun is everything.

The verb is any action.

Subject, as used here, is the topic/theme of the question.

The object as used here is the answer in the passage.

So, summary answers must be in simple sentences only but must contain all the information

in the paragraph without adding or subtracting anything from it.

Example of summary answers

The causes of teenage pregnancy

      1. Teenage pregnancy is caused by poverty

         or Poverty causes teenage pregnancy

      2. Teenage pregnancy is caused by the media

         or The media causes teenage pregnancy
