Ghana’s educational system has faced numerous challenges over the years, significantly

affecting the quality of education provided to students. One of the primary issues is the lack

of adequate infrastructure. Many schools, especially in rural areas, operate in

dilapidated buildings with limited or no access to basic amenities like electricity and clean

water. These poor conditions make it difficult for students to focus on their studies and for

teachers to deliver effective lessons.

Another major challenge is the shortage of qualified teachers. Many schools are

understaffed, and in some cases, untrained teachers are employed to fill the gaps. This

shortage affects the quality of instruction, as students are often taught by individuals who

lack the necessary expertise. Additionally, schools often use outdated curriculum and do

not equip students with the skills needed to thrive in the modern world. This mismatch

between the curriculum and the demands of the job market results in graduates who struggle

to find employment.

The situation is further exacerbated by the limited resources available for teaching and

learning. Many schools lack essential learning materials such as textbooks, laboratory
