The Silent Forest

The forest was silent that night—more silent than it had ever been. The usual rustling of

leaves, the occasional hoot of an owl, and the distant babble of the creek were all absent, as

if the world itself had decided to hold its breath.

Lena stood at the edge of the clearing, her heart pounding in her chest. She had heard the

stories—everyone in the village had. The Silent Forest, they called it, a place where people

disappeared without a trace, where the trees whispered secrets too terrible to speak aloud.

But Lena wasn’t afraid. Not really. She had something the others didn't—a reason to be there.

Her brother, Jacob, had vanished into these woods a year ago, and she was determined to

find him, or at least discover what had happened.

The moon cast an eerie light on the path ahead, illuminating the twisted roots and gnarled

branches that seemed to reach out for her as she walked. Every step was a struggle, the

silence pressing in on her from all sides. She could feel the weight of it—heavy and

oppressive, like a thick fog that dulled her senses.

She clutched the amulet around her neck, a simple pendant of polished wood, carved by

Jacob himself. He had given it to her just before he left, promising he would return before

the next full moon. But he hadn’t. And now, as she ventured deeper into the forest, the

amulet felt warm against her skin, as if guiding her forward.

The trees closed in around her, their trunks thick and dark, their branches intertwined to

form a canopy that blotted out the sky. She could no longer see the moon, only the dim

outline of the path before her, winding deeper into the heart of the forest.

And then she heard it—a faint, almost imperceptible sound, like the echo of a distant voice.
