It is a privilege to speak to you today on the importance of creative arts in our schools. As we gather to celebrate the diversity and richness of education, it is crucial that we emphasise the need for creative arts as an integral part of our school curriculum. Creative arts, encompassing visual arts, music, dance, drama, and more, are not merely extracurricular activities; they are essential for the holistic development of students and the progress of our nation. Today, I will share with you four key reasons why creative arts are vital in our schools, along with the significant results and effects of their inclusion. Firstly, creative arts enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Engaging in creative activities encourages students to think outside the box, to explore different perspectives, and to come up with innovative solutions to challenges. Whether it is through painting, composing music, or performing a play, students learn to analyse situations, make decisions, and express their ideas in unique ways. The result of this creative engagement is the development of sharp critical thinking skills that are transferable to other academic subjects and real-life situations. As a result, students become more adept at problem-solving, which is an invaluable skill in today’s rapidly changing world. Secondly, creative arts foster emotional expression and mental well-being. The arts provide students with a safe and constructive outlet to express their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Whether through dance, music, or visual arts, students can channel their feelings into creative works, helping them to process emotions and reduce stress.
