Introduction to Speech Writing The introduction of a speech is the summary of the whole speech. It contains the topic, sub- topics, and readiness. Also, the audience or the gathering must focus on the speech or the talk. Therefore, the introduction should have some of the tools for stimulating attention and interest to prevent the audience from dozing. Here are the steps in writing an introduction to speech writing. Steps 1. Address the house or the gathering. 2. Show respect for the opportunity given to speak. 3. Welcome the guests. 4. State the purpose of the occasion. 5. Bring out sub-topics. 6. Show readiness. For us to understand the above well, let us know the various steps well too. Address the house or the gathering. The address of the house is the greeting of the gathering (dignitaries) present at the occasion, starting from the chairman to ladies and gentlemen. An example will help us. Here is an example. Example of address of the house Mr. Chairman, The Headmaster, Invited Guest, Parents, Chiefs, Ladies and Gentlemen. Note: capitalise each of the names of the dignitaries or the gathering.
