CHAPTER - TWELVE

                                  FORMAL LETTERS

The composition in English language can be grouped into formal writing (essays) and

informal writing (essays).

We have the tools for writing. It is time to go into details of the types of essays.

The formal essays use formal language. There are no rooms for informal languages such us

slangs and idiomatic expressions. They are for respecting audiences or readers. These formal

essays include

   1. Formal letters.

   2. Articles.

   3. Speech writing.

   4. Argumentative writing

   5. Etc.

We are starting with a formal letter.

FORMAL LETTERS

Formal letters are written to people who are officials. They hold positions in offices.

Examples are the president, headmaster, ministers, assemblymen, etc.

Identification of formal letter

Formal letters are identified by the people we are writing them to. If the person holds any

office, then such a letter is a formal letter. To write a formal letter, we need to know the

features of it. Let us look at the features of formal letters.
